Landscape Architecture in Cheshire

Modern garden design with water feature and lighting - Landscape Architecture Cheshire - WM DESIGN STUDIO

The inclusion of a natural swale system running from north to south across the site helps to divert water away from the garden and house, while becoming a central, minimalist focal point within the new garden.

Simplicity was key, with a limited planting palette of hardscape, trees and shrubs selected to thrive in the challenging site conditions.

Acer campestre (field maple) was planted as an avenue to frame long-distance views while also helping to address the contaminated soil.

Alnus glutinosa (alder) and Pinus sylvestris (Scots pine) were used to screen views into the garden while tolerating the constantly fluctuating water levels.

A porcelain boardwalk by MC provides a pathway to the new outdoor gym, while also creating a natural division between the larger lawn areas and planting zones.

Lighting was kept subtle, combining uplighting for the avenue trees and sculptures with low-level LED lighting along the bespoke boardwalk and underwater lighting within the water rill. All light fittings were sourced from Collingwood Lighting.

The water rill was designed to reflect the expansive countryside sky, extending the views from the house and main interior living spaces into the garden.

Bespoke sculptures and steelwork were commissioned to create focal points throughout the landscape, offering views and moments of interest from the house, new kitchen and garden rooms.

Contemporary, Country

Approached by our clients to create landscape architecture for a luxury property build in Higher Whitley, Cheshire. White Mosaic completed landscape masterplanning, concept and construction detailing for the garden overseeing construction and project management of the scheme.

Our clients approached us to develop a new garden alongside a new house they had built on a difficult site.

The site suffered from constant high winds and water logging and was a difficult, contaminated area of wasteland to create a garden with.

Drainage was an issue and a mass of land drains had failed previously.

A more creative design approach was required.
